Background Statement
Habitat for Humanity of the Roaring Fork Valley was founded in 1999 when a group of concerned residents set out to form a Habitat Affiliate with a mission to build homes in partnership with local families in need of affordable homeownership. The new organization served the Roaring Fork and Colorado River Valleys—from Aspen to Glenwood Springs to Parachute.
Originally, Habitat RFV built one home at a time on donated land and was completely volunteer-operated. In 2004, Habitat started hiring staff to provide structure and help to better achieve the mission. From 2004-2014, the organization would build approximately one home every two years. In 2015, Habitat RFV began to increase pace of construction and built four homes. In 2021, Habitat completed nine homes. Presently, between 2024-2026, through both new construction and development neutral conversions, Habitat is bringing over 110 new homeownership opportunities to the Roaring Fork Valley community.
For each of Habitat RFV’s 26 years, the Affiliate has worked closely with Habitat partner families through every step of the homeownership process and has built safe, affordable housing with over 250 adults and children.
