Project Angel Heart

Your Gift Helps Deliver Hope and Health

Your gift helps Project Angel Heart prepare and home-deliver delicious, nutritious, medically tailored meals to Coloradans living with severe illnesses—all at no cost to them.

For neighbors living with cancer, kidney disease, HIV/AIDS, and other severe illnesses, getting the right nutrition can be especially challenging. Our meals help ease that burden, providing essential nutrition, comfort, and peace of mind so clients can focus on their health and well-being.

We believe Food is Medicine, and with your support, we can continue delivering meals with heart to neighbors who need them.

Why Your Support Matters Now

Over the past year, Project Angel Heart has faced government funding cuts and significantly rising costs, including food. We have reduced expenses, improved operational efficiencies, and done more with less, including leaving vacant positions unfilled. Still, financial pressures persist.

As a result, we have made the difficult decision to reduce meal production to 650,000, nearly 20% fewer meals than last year. This reduction helps us manage resources responsibly, but it does not close our budget gap, which we forecast to be $700,000 this year and next.

While we remain committed to serving our current clients, we will only be able to enroll new clients as our resources allow.

We have the people, the expertise, and the kitchen to prepare up to one million meals every year. In the long term, we’re developing additional healthcare partnerships and sustainable revenue opportunities.

Your support now can help Project Angel Heart stabilize service for Colorado neighbors at 650,000 and prevent the gap between need and available funding from growing wider.

The Difference Our Meals Make

Our clients tell us our medically tailored meals make a life-changing difference. According to our 2025 client surveys:

  • 81% reported that Project Angel Heart meals improved their quality of life.
  • 79% reported that our meals helped them remain independent in their homes.
  • 80% reported that our meals eased the stress of getting and preparing food.

Mission

Our vision is for all Coloradans living with severe illness to have access to nutritious food that supports their health and well-being. To that end, we compassionately deliver comfort and support through high-quality nutrition services, including medically tailored meals, while also advocating for the principles of Food is Medicine.

Background Statement

One Saturday in 1991, a group of friends delivered portions of a donated pan of lasagna to 12 neighbors living with HIV/AIDS in Denver, Colorado. Inspired by the difference a compassionate visit and a hot meal made, they continued delivering meals each week—and Project Angel Heart was born.

What started as an effort to bring comfort and love to those dying during the HIV/AIDS pandemic grew into a safety net for Coloradans living with severe illnesses. Donated lasagna has evolved into nutritious, freshly prepared meals tailored to meet clients’ specific medical needs, made by professional chefs in collaboration with registered dietitian nutritionists. And the delivery area has expanded to 2,450 square miles, from Fort Collins to Pueblo.

In 2026, Project Angel Heart expects to prepare and deliver 650,000 medically tailored meals to 4,500 Coloradans living with cancer, kidney/heart/lung disease, HIV/AIDS, and other severe illnesses.
