HomeAid Colorado

A nonprofit organization

$23,394 raised by 52 donors

HomeAid Colorado is a local affiliate of HomeAid. We attack the reality of homelessness with a unique and collaborative approach. Through housing development and community engagement, our mission is to help those experiencing homelessness to build new lives. HomeAid has become a vital force in creating safe and dignified housing and programmatic facilities for those who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

HomeAid Colorado brings together construction-industry professionals and affiliates to complete construction projects and provide critical resources to non-profit care providers who assist those in our community at a high risk of homelessness. As the charity of choice for the Colorado Association of Home Builders, HomeAid matches licensed, construction industry professionals with non-profit care providers to complete construction projects. This partnership allows non-profit care providers to focus their energy and resources on providing direct services to those experiencing homelessness while builders provide construction-related technical assistance, labor, and donated materials to complete construction projects at a fraction of the cost.

Once residents stabilize and move on to self-sufficiency, the home in which they were living becomes available for the next person or family that needs help.

Testimonials

"I ended up being a single mom with two new ones and a tremendous amount of expenses, and basically ended up homeless. With rent and day care for twins, there was no way that my salary could cover it all. The ideas was for me to take advantage of transitional housing and go to school full time. The people who helped me really wanted me to start over, and they really wanted me to be independent. Getting myself back on my feet. School was the only answer for my family and that is what this facility is so perfect for. Now school is the most important thing financially in the long run. I think what the final outcome is a good, healthy community. That's the bottom line."

Mission

HomeAid Colorado's mission is to help people experiencing or at risk of homelessness build new lives through construction, community engagement, and education.

Background Statement

HomeAid was founded in 1989 in Orange County, CA and expanded into a national organization creating independent chapters across the country. HomeAid Colorado became a chapter of HomeAid America in 1999. HomeAid was founded in part with the idea that it would offer the building industry a way of giving back to the local community. HomeAid has grown far beyond its initial concept and has proven to be a viable way for communities to address the issues of poverty and temporary homelessness.

HomeAid's partnership program is designed to increase emergency, transitional and permanent supportive housing for homeless people in our community. HomeAid Colorado implements its mission through partnerships with nonprofit organizations who are in need of new or expanded facilities and have a mission to support the homeless and strong client success rate in obtaining stability and independence.

In return HomeAid leverages its relationship with the local home building community and recruits a local builder captain to lead and supervise the construction or renovation of the project. The captain brings the in-kind resources of subcontractors, suppliers and consultants and delivers a project with an average of 68% of materials and labor donated. Since our first dedication in 2001, HomeAid Colorado has:

- completed 56 housing units for homeless families, domestic violence victims, veterans, and at risk youth

-provided 375 beds

-raised over $4.5 million in donations of labor, materials and services for the homeless housing community

In addition to our primary program of homeless housing development, HomeAid is proud to expand HomeAid Cares, our corporate volunteer program, and expand our Essentials program which leverages our volunteer base to donate diapers, wipes and formula between Mothers and Fathers Day. These programs allow HomeAid to impact homeless organizations that serve families with young children and the chronically homeless even though they may not have a construction project. By growing these programs HomeAid will be able to access new quality care providers which may in the future also have a need for program expansion.

HomeAid Colorado has been recognized by Housing Now, National Philanthropy Day and Extreme Makeover Home Edition.
