Monsie Cameron loved two things the most:

Dogs, and books about dogs.

On 11/26/2019, Mona Lou Hoedl Cameron passed away at the age of 89. She was a passionate and vivacious person, and throughout her life she had many great loves, most notably her labrador retrievers. Monsie considered herself a strong supporter of rescue, and that belief was passed down to not only her son, W. Bruce Cameron (of notable fame as the author of the Dog's Purpose series) but also through her grandaughter, Georgia Lee Cameron, who started a 501(c)(3) non-profit called Life is Better Rescue. This is not to mention all the various resuce animals her children and grandchildren are currently owned by.

Life is Better Rescue works to save animals of all types who are facing euthanasia in the shelter environment, either directly or indirectly.

Since its inception in 2010, Life is Better has saved nearly 7,000 animals and placed them into loving, adoptive homes.

When her family discussed what memorial would be most fitting, it was agreed that a Monsie Cameron Legacy fund that benefitted Life is Better seemed the most appropriate. Through these funds, the rescue pledges to use all donations toward animal care, furthering its mission, and giving tribute to things that mattered to Monsie most. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to remember Monise Cameron with a tax deductible donation.

Monsie is survived by her children: W. Bruce Cameron and his wife Cathryn Michon; daughters: Amy Cameron; Dr. Julie Cameron and her husband Ray Varuolo; grandchildren: Georgia Lee Cameron; Chelsea Hatch and her husband James Hatch; W. Chase Cameron and his wife Alyssa Cameron; W. Gage Cameron. Monsie is also survived by her great grandchildren: Eloise Murdock, Ewan and Garrett Adamec; Gordon and Sadie Hatch.

She is also survived through her love of the many dogs of the Cameron Households: Tucker, Bucky, Carly, Sadie, Mattie, Cooper, Baloo, Sammie, Echo, Atlas, as well as Big Little Cooper and Porsche (the spokesdogs for Life is Better Rescue.)

Thank you for your kindness!
