Background Statement

Caprock Academy is a K-12, Public Charter School of choice that opened its doors in 2007 in Grand Junction, Colorado. Founded by passionate and dedicated parents who sought a top-tier education and a safe environment for their children, Caprock Academy was born from their determination to offer a classical, character-focused education to the Grand Valley.

What began with humble roots—administrative offices in a two-story house and six modular units serving as classrooms—has grown into a thriving educational institution. Starting with 280 students in Kindergarten through 7th grade and just 19 teachers and educational assistants, Caprock Academy pioneered a new model of classical education in the region.

Today, we proudly serve over 850 students from Kindergarten through 12th grade and have successfully graduated 13 classes of students prepared for college and beyond. With a staff of more than 130 dedicated employees, our school continues to grow in both size and impact. In 2020, we completed Phase II of our building project, which added 29 new classrooms, an auxiliary gym, and locker rooms to accommodate our expanding student body and programs.

Most recently, Caprock Academy was announced as the #1 elementary, middle, and high school in Mesa County by Niche, a testament to our commitment to excellence and our students’ success.

As a community-grown public school of choice, Caprock Academy remains steadfast in its mission to provide an academically rigorous, character-centered education that empowers students to achieve their fullest potential. We are grateful for the continued support of our community, which allows us to foster excellence in education for future generations.
