Background Statement

The Community Budget Center was officially started in 1980 by a group of local residents to help with the needs of other local residents. Our Board of Directors has always been a diverse volunteer selection of local residents from all economic sectors. Our thrift store is now located in Historic Downtown Craig, Colorado.

The location and the hours we operate make it easily accessible to the local community.

The assistance we offer has increased greatly over the years that we have been in business. During the first years of operation most assistance was given for clothing or household items from the store inventory.

Over the years the assistance has increased to include clothing and household items as well as financial assistance for shelter, food, utilities, heating needs, prescriptions and medical needs, transportation, auto repair, travel expenses for emergency situations, and many other urgent needs.

In 2015 CBC gave assistance to over 1000 clients in need.

We have received grants from El Pomar Foundation, Moffat County United Way, Energy Outreach Colorado, NEEP, Yampa Valley Community Foundation, Yampa Valley Electric Association, and the Moffat County Human Resource Council. We receive client referrals from VNA, local medical offices and providers, all local pharmacies, churches, Moffat County Department of Human Services, United Way of the Yampa Valley, Love INC, The Memorial Regional Hospital, Yampa Valley Electric Association, Northwest Colorado Dental Coalition, local dental offices, eye care offices, Atmos Energy, City of Craig, local law enforcement, local landlords, 211, and the local general public.

We have a staff of 12 employees and a Board of Directors with 6 members. We are open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Board meets monthly with the Executive Director and the Operations Manager to discuss the operations and needs of the agency.
