A Glance at EAP: What We Do:
GHG Emissions Tracking: EAP developed our region's greenhouse gas emissions inventory and has been tracking and updating emissions since 2010.
Climate Action Plan: EAP completed our region's climate action plan in 2021 which sets the state for the next decade of climate action across our region with goals of a 50% reduction in our GHG emissions by 2030 and a 90% reduction by 2050. This plan has been adopted by all 10 jurisdictions in San Miguel and Ouray counties.
CARE Program: EAP runs Colorado's Affordable Residential Energy Program (CARE) across our region. The CARE program supports low and middle-income households by providing a free energy assessment that prioritizes and implements cost effective energy efficiency improvements. We assist between 35-40 homes each year.
Student Programing: EAP is working hard to amplify student voices of all ages and backgrounds across the region. We designed programming for 3rd-5th graders that teaches students about our changing climate and challenges them to vision a sustainable future for their community. Additionally, we partner with other local nonprofits to guest appear at after school programs, free programming at the local library and participate in Valley Floor Day for K-2nd graders in Telluride. We have enjoyed having summer interns as well as building relationships with local high school students through the mentorship program at THS, as well as being a part of student environmental clubs in Telluride and Ouray. This year we hope to bring together high schoolers across the county to start a youth climate council.
Green Business Program: Our Green Business Membership Program helps businesses realize the financial benefits of energy efficiency through EAP guidance on best practices. We currently have approximately 40 GB members and have recently put out a Green Business Guidebook as a local resource for best practices in our region.
Zero Waste Initiative: EAP helps local festivals become zero waste by forming a team of volunteers to educate festival goers on CRT. We host bi-annual clean up days, events like the Trash Bash, and support local compost initiatives with outreach, events and educational workshops. Our staff has updated a regional recycling guide and are currently working on updating a more in-depth waste guide to share resources on hard to recycle materials.
Community Outreach: Equitable education and outreach has been a key priority for EAP as we work towards reaching out CAP goals. We have started a Coffee and Climate Conversation series in partnership with Sheep Mountain Alliance to continue community engagement around the bigger picture climate conversations and ways folks can get involved with the plan and other climate programming that is happening in our region. Along with our coffee chats, EAP hosts a plethora of outreach events such as films, tabling events, workshops, Earth Day Extravaganza, Trash Bash, EV ride and Drive events and more! We seek out opportunities to connect and collaborate with local organizations and community members whenever possible. We hope to create more bridges for the community in connecting over caring for the planet and each other!
