Family Promise of Colorado Springs

A nonprofit organization

Family Promise of Colorado Springs exists to provide safe and compassionate temporary shelter for children and their families who are situationally unhoused. This is done through the support of the entire community. Shelter is provided through local congregations, meals by local volunteers, and case management and support from committed and hard working staff!

Your support ensures that this work continues, but also that it expands. Plans are being made so that this program not only thrives, but grows to allow even more families to use our services! We invite you to be a part of that work by making a donation today, learning more about Family Promise, or asking your congregation about involvement.

Families in the IHN program have a safe place to be 24/7 and transportation provided to make sure they can get there. A warm dinner and packable breakfasts and lunches ensure that food insecurity does not exist in the IHN program. The constant presence of shelter, food, and support ensures that families are free to work towards their goals of housing, employment, education, transportation, and childcare with the intentional support of our Case Management staff.

Mission

Family Promise of Colorado Springs mobilizes our community by advocating for and empowering vulnerable families with children to achieve housing stability.

Background Statement

Family Promise of Colorado Springs, originally called Interfaith Hospitality Network of Colorado Springs (IHN), was incorporated in 1996 as a nonsectarian 501(c)3 to help homeless families achieve self-sufficiency in the greater Colorado Springs area.

In 1997, participating congregations and local community leaders opened their doors to support families experiencing homelessness in their time of greatest need. These congregations all embraced the "Interfaith Hospitality Network" model as 13 congregations, of various faiths and denominations, each hosting families four times a year to cover the 52 weeks of the year. Congregations join resources to help homeless families by providing food and shelter to participants at night, while IHN staff provided wrap-around support services during the day. Families are hosted one week at a time by converting education classrooms, giving each family privacy, unlike traditional shelters with shared spaced and housing often splitting male and female family members apart.

In 2015, IHN added the "doing business as" Family Promise of Colorado Springs (Family Promise) to embrace its programmatic expansion beyond its IHN program and better align itself with the "Family Promise" (formerly National IHN office). The name, Family Promise, is now shared with the national office and hundreds of other U.S. affiliates that have also expanded beyond their original scope.

We now operate diligently in providing services to empower families to overcome housing instability and homelessness and partner with the community to provide families wrap around services and building a strong community!
