Background Statement

PROTECTING THE VOTE & EXPANDING ACCESS

We work to remove barriers to voting, fight voter suppression, and expand voter access – especially for historically disenfranchised communities. Our Ballot Issue Education provides clear, unbiased resources to help voters make informed decisions.

ADVOCACY & LEGISLATIVE ACTION

With a 40+ member Legislative Action Committee and a dedicated staff lobbyist, we advocate for human and civil rights, transparent government, and policies that promote equity. Our eleven policy task forces tackle key issues:

✅ Alternative Voting Methods

✅ Civics Education

✅ Climate Emergency

✅ Education

✅ Elections

✅ Gun Violence Prevention

✅ Healthcare

✅ Housing

✅ Justice, Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (J.E.D.I.)

✅ News Access & Literacy

✅ Reproductive Freedom

We don’t just talk about change – we drive it. From securing better election laws to fighting environmental injustice, our advocacy shapes policy at the local and state levels.

📚 PUBLIC EDUCATION & OUTREACH

We provide accessible, nonpartisan election resources like:

🔹 Vote411.org – A trusted online voter guide with key election info

🔹 Voter registration drives – Bringing civic engagement to communities across the state

🔹 Workshops & trainings – Equipping voters with the knowledge they need to participate fully in democracy

⚖️ FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE IN THE COURTS

LWVCO isn’t afraid to take legal action to protect voting rights. We are currently partnering with NAACP & Mi Familia Vota in a federal lawsuit against the US Election Integrity Plan, which has intimidated voters by sending armed canvassers door-to-door.

GROWING CIVIC LEADERSHIP

We support the next generation of civic leaders through mentorship, training, and coalition-building with organizations committed to a just and inclusive democracy.

STRENGTHENING OUR IMPACT

We Don’t Endorse Candidates. WE BUILD AN INFORMED ELECTORATE.

At LWVCO, we don’t tell you who to vote for – we make sure you have the tools, knowledge, and access to vote with confidence.

Democracy is strongest when EVERYONE has a voice. Join us in protecting the vote, advocating for justice, and shaping the future of Colorado.
