Community Care and Volunteerism
With 30 active volunteers contributing over 12,000 hours in the last two years, we’re a community-powered organization dedicated to feeding and supporting our neighbors. You can trust that your donation will have a large impact because it goes straight to the people in need.
"I haven't been able to work since February 2021. I don't know how we would have been able to survive without your help! Las Animas Helping Hands has helped us so much! We are very grateful!"
– Food Pantry Client
"Thank you for all of the help that you have given to us. I don't know what we would have done with out you. If there's anything we can do, please let us know. Again, thank you."
– Cancer patient's family
"When you are 80 and 82 you must remember to say Thank you. Thank You for: the trips to the doctors, Saint Mary's Hospital, and the trip to bring us home again; delivery of our food distribution; the hours spent on a hard chair helping us with our budget; and driving through a rainstorm just so we could get to court in Pueblo. Thanks for the dinners – times like these are few and so appreciated. It was great food. Thanks again - you truly are heaven sent…"

Giving Activity
Mission
To provide emergency assistance to individuals and families in Bent County, Colorado and the surrounding area while providing opportunities to develop self-sufficiency.
Background Statement
Las Animas Helping Hands was founded in 2004 to address food insecurity in Bent County, one of Colorado’s most underserved regions. With a population of just over 2,400 in Las Animas and a broader county population of 6,000, we saw the need to create a reliable source of food assistance. Our volunteer group organized a weekly food pantry and monthly USDA Commodities distribution. As lower-income families continue to face difficult choices each month to meet their basic life needs, we expanded our services to include assistance with utilities payments, funds for non-controlled prescription medications, and even gas and rental assistance on a case-by-case basis. This year we’ve already served more than 9,000 individuals in Bent County. We remain a 100% volunteer organization.
