Night Lights, a Colorado-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, aims to establish secure environments by offering free respite care for children aged 4 weeks to 13 years with special needs and their neurotypical siblings. Respite care offers parents and caregivers a valuable break by providing short-term childcare services. It not only brings temporary relief but also enhances family stability, lowering the likelihood of abuse or neglect.

Our trained volunteers organize monthly respite care sessions at three locations, providing parents a much-needed break while creating a safe and enjoyable space for the children. Because the safety of the children is paramount, we run nationwide background checks on staff and volunteers, require families to fill out annual paperwork, and we have a registered nurse at each respite event.

The demand for our respite care services is growing due to increasing diagnoses of medical conditions, necessitating more frequent care than occasional doctor visits. To meet this rising need, expansion is crucial. Your support on Colorado Gives Day will help us raise funds to help cover the costs associated with respite care. Your contribution will make a significant impact on the lives of caregivers and children in need.

Mission

Night Lights provides respite care programs that create safe and accepting environments for children with special needs and their siblings.

Background Statement

Night Lights is held once a month from 6:30pm - 10:00pm, year-round. While at Night Lights, each child (the child with special needs and their siblings) is paired one-on-one with a trained, background-checked volunteer. During an evening at Night Lights, the children enjoy a variety of activities such as; gross motor, free play, sensory activities, pet therapy, arts and crafts, movies and a snack (each child brings their own snack due to diverse food allergies). There is a registered nurse on site for all Night Lights evenings to tend to the children with medical needs. Night Lights is for children ages 1 month - 13 years.

Each family must complete a registration packet for each child, as well as meet with the Leadership Team prior to attending Night Lights. This allows the Night Lights team to pair the children with the appropriate volunteers and plan accordingly.
