National Outdoor Leadership School

The Tenth Mountain Division Foundation Scholarship was established to fund active duty military, veterans, and/or their immediate family at NOLS. We are deeply grateful for your generous and steadfast support for scholarships at NOLS. This year, we awarded over $1 million in scholarships. We are excited to continue expanding the accessibility of our courses and would not be able to do so without your support. The lives changed by scholarships have profound impacts on communities around the world. We thank you on behalf of all of those affected by your generosity.

Background Statement

The 10th Mountain Division Foundation (Foundation) was established in 1958 to fund the construction of a War Memorial Monument located at the top of Tennessee Pass in Colorado near the gates of Camp Hale where the WWII Division trained. The initial objective was completed and a celebration honoring their fallen comrades’ was held on Memorial Day in 1959. With the long-term maintenance of the memorial secured, the Directors of the Foundation established a scholarship program to support Descendants of the WWII 10th Mountain Division Veterans. Today, the Foundation funds four mission based program areas including the Charles A. and Loyola M. Murphy Endowed Scholarship for the study of military history. Along with scholarship awards, annual grants and support are provided to organizations, individuals and agencies to advance programs and projects in the areas of Public History and Collections (archives and artifacts), Monuments and Memorials and Outdoor Experience that honor the outdoor and mountain legacy of the 10th Mountain Division and the ideals exemplified by soldiers – past – present and future.
