I don't know if it's just me, but there is something about small theaters that i just like. Maybe it's my mind's way of remembering the days when I acted in many plays at the Morrison Theater, but there is definitely something about this theater that made me feel right at home. The staff/cast/experience in general is just fun. I LOVE me some avenue :)

This is a great small theatre. It reminded me of one that we used to go to when we lived in Chicago. Just a warm, fun theatre. We bought a couple of drinks, and they were very reasonable. You could take them to your seat. I will definity go back again. The neighborhood is really nice around it with several eating establishments nearby.

Tucked in-between all the bars and restaurants on 17th, you'll find Avenue Theater. One of the coolest things about the theater scene in Denver is that all of the theaters have their own specialty, their own feel. When I think Avenue, I think fun.
Avenue isn't afraid of taking risks, and staging edgy shows like The B-Team or Hedwig and the Angry Inch, but nothing is pretentious or preachy. It's just fun. Big names in the Denver theater community - Nick Sugar, for example - are drawn to Avenue, and help make the theater what it is today.

The Avenue Theater Group has produced hit shows like Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Girls Only; The Secret Comedy of Women, and our new-classic Santa's Big Red Sack. Still we are always pushing to try new things. With shows like The Divine Sister, Dog Sees God, and String of Pearls we proved that we are not content producing established works. We are on a dedicated mission to seek out new plays, especially comedies, and introduce them to our wide and growing audience.
And while we are known for our comedies, we have shown outstanding dramas like David Mamet's, Oleanna and The Syringa Tree. The better part of The Avenue's resources for our shows come, not from ticket sales, but from generous supporters, investors in local theater who know that most people would never see live theater if it weren't for the help of donors like them.
