Your kindness today will help renovate kennel space used for dogs needing extended medical treatment, foster care, and those requiring longer lengths of stay.
Meet Leo:
Leo is one example of the many dogs who would benefit from this new, improved kennel space. When Leo arrived, we could immediately tell something was wrong with his legs.
He walked gingerly with a wide stance, and his legs were stiff. Leo was also very nervous, panting with a tucked tail and wide eyes.
Our veterinary team sedated Leo for an in-depth exam and found that Leo’s legs are angled outward and have dislocated kneecaps and torn ligaments. His extensive orthopedic issues require multiple surgeries to relieve pain, months of recovery, and lifelong care for pain and arthritis.
Every day, we see dogs and cats who are sick or injured and in need of extended care. Your compassionate donation this Colorado Gives Day can make a significant difference in their lives, providing comfort and hope.
Why is this kennel renovation so crucial?
There are 31 chain-link fence kennels that haven’t been updated in about 25 years, and animal shelter standards have come a long way since then. The doors and dividers frequently break, making the kennel unusable and unsafe until repaired.
Cost: The estimated cost is $70,000 to cover new kennel hardware, insulation, lighting, and painting for 31 kennels.
Benefits:
Updated kennels will improve the standard of care and safety for hundreds of dogs each year who need extended stays.
The new fronts of these kennels will provide a visual barrier so the dogs don't get overstimulated by seeing each other, which will provide a lower-stress environment.
All of this means a better chance for them to heal and find new loving homes.
Your support is crucial to making this project happen, and we are grateful for your generosity.
Please give today to help renovate the kennel space for dogs like Leo, who require extended care.
Your gift by 11:59 p.m. will be matched up to $15,000!

Mission
Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region offers compassionate care to animals, supports safe communities, and provides socially conscious sheltering.
Background Statement
Founded in 1949, Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) is the largest animal welfare group for homeless and abused animals in Colorado. HSPPR is a local, independent nonprofit not affiliated with national organizations such as ASPCA or Humane Society of the United States and relies on donations to fund its work. As an open-admission shelter, no animal is ever turned away. HSPPR staff care for animals in distress, provide medical care for abused and injured animals, reunite lost pets with their owners, find loving homes for homeless animals, investigate animal cruelty, and enforce animal ordinances. We believe pets and people are better together. That’s why we’re here.
HSPPR staff and volunteers care for more than 24,000 homeless animals each year. Animal Law Enforcement responds to more than 40,000 calls for service and investigates nearly 5,000 cruelty and neglect cases.
HSPPR is proud to be a part of the growing socially conscious animal community movement named “Socially Conscious Sheltering.” Together with other animal welfare organizations across the country, HSPPR is dedicated to giving every animal that comes through its doors the care and respect they deserve and the best possible outcome by adhering to Socially Conscious Sheltering tenets.
