Background Statement
The ACE Mentor Program of Colorado provides both hands-on learning opportunities and scholarships to Colorado high school students. With nine in-person meeting locations on the Front Range and a robust, engaging virtual program available across the state, ACE is able to reach a diverse range of students. Our goal to increase student awareness of career opportunities in architecture, construction, and engineering (the 6th largest industry in the US) serves to both highlight career paths and improve work-force readiness for the next generation.
To further support student growth and success, ACE Mentor Program of Colorado provides tens of thousands of dollars in Vocational Learning and College Scholarships each year. Since we were founded in 2002, ACE Mentor Program of Colorado has provided $520,000 in scholarships to 144 students. Scholarships continue to be awarded on an annual basis to ACE graduates who go on to college or trade's school to study in the ACE industry. Nationally, 75% of high school seniors completing the program enter a college program in architecture, construction, engineering, or a skilled craft.
We are the local affiliate of the ACE Mentor Program of America (ACE), a free, award-winning, after school program designed to attract high school students into pursuing careers in the Architecture, Construction and Engineering industry, including skilled trades. The ACE program, which meets two hours per week throughout Spring Semester, introduces participants to building industry professions by having them plan and design mock projects on real sites and work with professionals in the design and build industries. Students and mentors form groups, each organized like a typical design and construction team, to complete this real-world design program. Volunteers from firms across the Front Range, serve as mentors, work directly with the students to introduce them to the broad range of people and projects within the construction industry, and coach students through public presentations of their projects. Students are introduced to the various design professions and the role that each performs in planning, designing and constructing a project. Students also gain first hand insight into the design industry by touring active construction sites.
With fully volunteer mentor teams and local board, ACE Mentor Program of Colorado works hard to ensure that donations fund the classroom curriculum and scholarships directly. Our board is comprised of local industry leaders who make a significant contribution to our affiliate. We are grateful for their continuing support.
