Millions of people live, play, or travel in avalanche country every year in the US. The American Avalanche Association (A3) is the self-governing body of avalanche professionals who keep us safe, informed, and educated in avalanche country.

A3 supports those who forecast, mitigate, guide, educate, and rescue by providing: 

1. Standardized Education Oversight (for both Professional Training & Recreational Avalanche Courses)

2. Professional Development Opportunities for Avalanche Workers

3. Mental Health Resources & Support for First Responders

4. Research Project & Scholarship Funding for Students and Practitioners

5. Industry Trade & Scientific Publications

Promoting professionalism, expertise, and knowledge within the avalanche industry, for the benefit of all who work, play or travel in avalanche country.

Background Statement

The American Avalanche Association (A3) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to professional excellence in avalanche safety, education and research in the United States. A3 acts on behalf of avalanche professionals and their beneficiaries to ensure access to education, safety, training, and up-to-date resources. A3 members include snow science researchers, search and rescue professionals, avalanche forecasters, educators, professional guides, athletes, snow safety officers, snow rangers, patrollers, technicians, and explosive specialists.

A3 spearheads collaboration between the US Avalanche Industry, avalanche professionals, and their 40 million beneficiaries through three key initiatives: education, publications, and outreach.
