Background Statement

Founded in 1949, the Aspen Music Festival and School is regarded as one of the top classical music organizations in the world. We strive to enrich lives through music and are noted both for our concert programming and training of talented, young musicians.

The AMFS presents a robust schedule of events year-round, with programming divided into three categories: the summer Festival and School, a Winter Music Series, and our year-round Education and Community programs.

At the core of our offerings is our 8-week summer Festival which immerses the City of Aspen and the greater Roaring Fork Valley in creative spirit and artistic innovation; more than 115 artist-faculty members, 110 guest artists, and 450 student musicians join us for a unique experience in a stunning environment. We offer more than 200 events during the summer Festival, more than half of which are free for the public.

Our Winter Music Series highlights a fantastic lineup of dynamic guest artists during the coldest months of the year, and our year-round Education and Community programs bring high-quality, musical education experiences to more than 4,000 children at all learning levels. More than half of youth participants receive tuition and/or instrument scholarships, and offerings continue to expand in direct response to demand.
