Archuleta Seniors, Inc. (ASI) works to promote independence and advance community resilience by empowering individuals who are 60 and better, their families, and other community stakeholders.

Services provided through ASI provide community engagement and in-home services to improve senior wellness and quality of life in Archuleta County.

Meals and Supplemental Nutrition: 1900 - 2000 fresh, nutritious meals along with 10-15 bags of groceries are provided to a minimum of 235 clients monthly.    Meals are provided five days/week via drive-thru carryout, delivery (Meals on Wheels), and onsite dining.   Our Mobile Pantry service assists homebound seniors living in outlying areas.

Social Connection, Education, Resources and Referrals:   Opportunities for social interaction, up to 30 annually, are made available both on and offsite, such as service and field trip activities, games, discussion groups, yoga, etc.  Educational workshops & presentations - up to 60 annually, e.g. healthy habits, VITA tax support, fall prevention, & caregiver training are delivered in-person and remotely, while comprehensive, informed referrals to other community organizations provide further assistance (e.g. housing, social services).

Isolation and Caregiver Supports: An average of 20 individuals take advantage of our on-demand transportation to/from the Senior Center, while the residents of nearby congregate housing for low-income seniors have walkable access to the facility/services.   Dozens of individuals benefit from at-home wellness checks by our pool of 50 Meals on Wheels volunteers while others are provided electronic monitoring devices (hardware and subscription service).

Community Outreach: ASI's Community Cafe also works with 2 local preschools (Headstart & Seeds of Learning) to provide tasty nutritious breakfasts and lunches to our littles!  A local Greenhouse partnership to supplement our fresh produce will be implemented this year.  Community Fundraising Events (i.e Community Senior Discount Cards Program, Big Band Dance, Kentucy Derby, & Spanish Fiesta) strive to engage our community members with our Seniors to raise funds for our ongoing programs.

Background Statement

In 1974, Archuleta County established the Pagosa Senior Center to benefit citizens aged 60 and better. In 2003, the nonprofit Archuleta Seniors, Inc. (ASI) was founded to provide volunteers for the Center. Work at the center was overseen and performed by the County until 2013 when administration of the organization was transferred to ASI. Since that time, ASI has worked with thousands of local residents 60 years or better with the goal that they live healthy, vibrant and independent lives.
