Testimonials

"ARISE has helped me in every part of my journey, since arriving here. I came to them with no support system or family around to help me. I just had the clothes on my back. They provided me with a very safe place to live and start to re-build my life. I received food, clothing, shelter, referrals and even a cell phone to use to find a job. I did find a job and they were caring and helpful, allowing me to stay while I looked for a place to rent and move into. When I found one, they even helped me with my deposit and first month's rent. I am truly blessed and grateful to them for all their kindness and support. I arrived, scared and lonely, with nothing to my name. Because of ARISE I have a place to live with a job and new options. I did not think I would have made it this far when I first arrived, but I did with the help of ARISE and I will never forget their kindness. I am truly very grateful and thankful to all of you! Thank you and God Bless you!"

"Over the past few years, my husband has become more and more angry, mean, aloof, and overall abusive. He had full control of my finances and my free time. Finally, he had become physically abusive. I didn't know who to turn to, and it was therefore recommended by the forensic nurse at the hospital to call ARISE.

When I opened up to an advocate about my husband’s behavior, I began to truly realize the extent of his abuse. The next time I saw him, he began to threaten me like he always does, but this time I did not stand down. I reported him to the police where he was ultimately charged with domestic violence.

ARISE provided me with a counselor, which helped me process the trauma. They also helped with groceries and household supplies because when my husband took a job hours away, he took everything. ARISE stood by me to help me along the way when I made the scariest decision of my life, the decision to become safe for my own sake and the sake of my children."

[Translated from Spanish to English] "I arrived in Colorado in December 2022 with my three children and now ex-husband. To make a long story short, I will briefly tell what happened in May of this year. I had a strong argument with the father of my children; I received blows, harsh words, and mistreatment. Due to this incident, I decided to end this relationship. I left home with my three children, scared, without much money, and with the fear that I might not be able to make it on my own. I heard about ARISE, and decided to call and they helped me make an appointment. On the day of the appointment, I met Ana, an excellent woman. She listened to me, I told her my case and what I was going through, and she was very supportive. I was in disbelief when I got a call from Ana telling me to come pick up the check for a month's rent assistance. It is incredible the happiness that I felt. It was a huge relief for me. But that's not all. They provided me with legal help for immigration, and they gave me help with the custody of my children. I am so happy and feel very good to have found this excellent program at ARISE. I realized I was not alone. They have been a massive help for me and my children."

Mission

The mission of ARISE (formerly known as Summit Advocates) is to provide short-term resources which enhance the safety and justice for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and related traumas while promoting peace in our community through effective education and supportive programming.

Background Statement

ARISE has evolved from a grassroots program formed in 1979 to aid domestic violence victims to an organization that provides 24-hour crisis response, emergency safe housing and advocacy support, legal advocacy and outreach and education to survivors (and their dependent children) of domestic violence, sexual assault, and related traumas. Our client contact numbers and community outreach programs continue to rise. The amount of clients we serve has been increasing since 2020. In 2023, we served 435 new clients, answered 513 crisis calls, and provided over 5,000 nights of safety to survivors.
