About Art Song Colorado
Founded in 2015, Art Song Colorado introduces new audiences to the joy of classical song through innovative performances in intimate settings. Often featuring interdisciplinary collaborations, ASC aims to provide its audiences with an immersive storytelling experience. Some of Art Song Colorado's recent projects include "Voices of the African Diaspora," a concert dedicated to Black composers throughout the centuries; "We were always here," an LGBTQ+ composer recital; and "Enough - Voices Against Abuse," a recital of musical theater pieces on the subject of domestic/intimate partner violence, including a complete production of To Hell and Back by Jake Heggie.
ASC's albums, Die schöne Müllerin, a new recording for voice and guitar, and A Single Step… Songs of Beethoven and Donaudy provide a perfect springboard for audiences new to art song. El Rebelde (2022), which features baritone Andrew Garland and pianist Jeremy Reger, explores the influence of Spanish culture on classical music. Most recently, ASC premiered and recorded a new opera, Colorado Sky, by Ben Morris and Laura Fuentes. This album featured all Colorado artists and a Colorado story focused on the reintroduced wolves in the state.
An integral part of ASC's mission is to elevate the professional careers of Colorado artists through in-person and online performances. Over the years, ASC has spotlighted local artists through performance engagements and recording projects. In spring 2024, Art Song Colorado hosted the inaugural Art Song Competition. Included with a cash prize is the opportunity for the winning singer to perform their recital project as part of the Art Song Colorado season.
This season we are excited to present Femmepressionist: A Contemplative Recital, Mortal Euphonies featuring ASC's 2024 Art Song Competition winner Melanie Dubil, and Herbert! A Musical Theatre Review. For more info, please visit our website at https://artsongcolorado.org.
