"Wow! Where do I start...this show was extremely thought provoking. Everyone at the theater was welcoming and inviting. I stayed afterwards and went to the wake. I was included in several "life in the moment" conversations! "- VetTix Patron

"I love the intimate atmosphere of the Benchmark Theater. This is the fourth play I've seen there. The performances have always exceeded my expectations - by a lot! I'm so glad to see a little culture brought to Lakewood." -Goldstar Review, 5/5 Stars

"Astounding quality- on stage, front of house, chats in line for the bathroom...incomparable experiences left, right and center! Thank you, Benchmark for all you do!" - Facebook Review

"I want to give the biggest thank you for allowing myself and my friend to attend the superb performance of Smokefall. The full gamut of emotions were gleaned out of the audience. The performance had us laughing and crying. I am so grateful to know this theater company exists and will be attending many of their performances next season in their new location. Small intimate theatre made the experience all the more captivating and enjoyable." - VetTix Patron

Reviews in the local media:

"Benchmark's production of (Blasted) the abrasive work set in some sort of wartime - with its bold direction and bolder performances - is cause for, if not joy, celebration."
-Lisa Kennedy, Denver Post

"...a small theater company in Lakewood is punching above its weight class with winning, if bruising, results. Benchmark Theatre is giving George Orwell's "1984" a visceral, often stunning, once-over."
-Lisa Kennedy, Denver Post

"'Wakey, Wakey,' following last year's extraordinary 'What You Will,' confirms this small theater is among Denver's most ambitious companies."
-Claire Martin, The Denver Post

"Benchmark is proving its chops as Denver's premier production company for unexpected theatrical experiences."
-Owen Niland, Denver Theater Perspectives

"With this thought-provoking and well-executed show, Benchmark has revealed itself as a company to be watched, and a welcome addition to the Denver theater community."
-Juliet Wittman, Westword

"Benchmark Theatre productions certainly engender post-show conversations."
-Beki Pineda, GetBoulder

Mission

Benchmark Theatre is a professional theatre company that was founded in 2016. We endeavor to bring our community together with high-quality productions and unique programming. With an emphasis on why stories need to be told, our motto is to "keep the conversation going."

OUR MISSION

The mission of Benchmark Theatre is to stimulate conversations about the universal human experience and nourish the imaginative spirit of our community through thought-provoking productions. We do theatre with intention.

Background Statement

The E-Project was founded in 2002, and its most recent embodiment, Benchmark Theatre, has been producing established, premiere, and original theatrical works for its audiences and supporting local artists in their Lakewood space since 2018 after performing their first full season in Denver the previous year. In addition to play production, Benchmark is the home of The Fever Dream Festival, highlighting new Science Fiction, Horror, and Fantasy works onstage, and its Community Response Initiative, whose events bring together members of our community in collaboration to highlight international, national, and local conversations with pieces that engage audiences and participants on a personal level.

The E Project has consistently met its mission by providing entertainment and cultural activities in Jefferson County. Founder Ken Crow built a solid foundation for the organization. For the majority of the duration of Crow's leadership of The E Project operated as The West Colfax Events Center, housing special events, theater productions, and education programs for children. In October 2010, Rick Yaconis assumed leadership of The E Project non-profit entity and operated The Edge Theater as the sole theater. Over the course of eight years, Yaconis and his wife, Patty, produced award-winning and critically acclaimed theatre productions. In November 2012, The E Project formed a partnership with the 40 West Arts Team to create a destination arts facility that focuses on visual and performing arts in the West Colfax corridor in Lakewood. In 2017, Rick Yaconis decided it was time to take a step back from running The E Project and formed a legacy plan with Benchmark Theatre so that the work of The E Project would continue uninterrupted out of the 40 West Creative Arts District.
