Background Statement
History: BikeDenver was formed in 2001* at a community meeting hosted by Colorado's statewide bicycle advocacy group. A group of Denver-based bicyclists responded to the identified need for a Denver-focused advocacy group to improve conditions and access for bicyclists in the city. The group formed under the name BikeDenver, and became the voice for resident and community needs.
Today: BikeDenver is a grassroots organization representing the needs of Denver-area residents. The organization is made up of representatives from diverse backgrounds and professions all with the desire to promote the individual and community benefits of bicycling, create a better environment for people on bikes, and foster increased ridership.
*BikeDenver was founded in 2001, but was not incorporated as a non-profit until 2005
