Blue Rising Community

A nonprofit organization

Blue Rising envisions a world where kids can enter adulthood without the emotional scars and trauma that are a part of struggling to recover from a high potency THC addiction, having friends and family members die from fentanyl poisoning, and experiencing the fear and anxiety that come with daily exposure to news stories, lockdown drills and in some cases, losing friends to gun violence. We believe young people should be able to take healthy risks, explore life and make mistakes safely without life-altering consequences that change their future opportunities and possibilities.

This generation of kids is facing new and complex challenges that threaten the trajectory of their lives. Young people and their families are navigating coming of age with the presence of high potency THC, fentanyl, gun violence and other related issues. The risk landscape has changed.  Commonsense policies and programs need to be developed, adapted and informed by those most impacted.

Mission

Blue Rising’s approach to change bridges the gap between those in pain and those in power. We build strong and diverse coalitions that include families impacted by high-potency THC, fentanyl, and gun violence, who work alongside passionate community members. Fighting for a future where young people remain healthy, whole, and hopeful requires multifaceted and nuanced approaches. This is why at Blue Rising we move nimbly and boldly to create and implement policy and programmatic solutions which help families take back their power and use their voices to address the issues that limit opportunities and cut lives short.

Background Statement

Blue Rising was born out of the tragic Sandy Hook school shooting and a call to action for women and mothers around the country. It was through this work that our founders learned how to organize, educate and mobilize women to make Colorado a safer place for kids. As their children have grown and our advocates have expanded, so have the issues that Blue Rising covers. No longer solely focused on gun violence, high potency THC and fentanyl now pose significant risks to young people across Colorado - limiting opportunities and cutting lives short.
