Background Statement
Broomfield Early Childhood Council started with a vision to ensure all Broomfield children are valued, healthy and thriving. Although our organization has grown, expanded and flourished over the last 15 years, our vision remains the same! We partner and provide direct service to families, child care and preschool teachers, and partner organizations to improve outcomes for children and their families, ensuring lifelong learners and healthy, valued children as they enter Kindergarten!
BECC had historically been a collaboration agency, supporting existing programs and organizations to collaborate in supporting early childhood health and wellness, a more connected system of care and support for families and young children. We started in 2007 under fiscal host City and County of Broomfield, then onto Bal Swan Children's Center, evenutally earning our own 501c3 nonprofit in 2015.
As there is currently no formal system to support early childhood services, like a school district, BECC strives to be that anchor of support. Our organization continues to be the anchor of support and champion collaboration for early childhood health and education by including direct services to increasing the quality, capacity, accessibility and equity of early childhood health and education.
The impetus of our organization moving from a convener to a critical stakeholder in early childhood services was the roll out of the quality rating system for early childhood education - Colorado Shines. Much like a hotel or restaurant star rating, Colorado Shines rated the quality of licensed child care and preschool sites. We used best practices to coach and train child care providers on how to improve their curriculum, support teachers in providing exceptional care and education for their children and an overall sense of value and worth to the early childhood care and education profession. BECC has been wildly successful in supporting our teachers, private child care businesses and preschools to enhance their education delivery.
To create a comprehensive program of supporting children in their social/emotional and academic development, we also work to support parents with the same evidence based programs that help them build strong relationships with children and create less stress in the family home.
To complete our comprehensive approach, we continue to work at building a stronger system of early childhood care and education by partnering with organizations that support parents, provide resources, and enhance a child's ability to grow and thrive.
With community partners supporting early childhood and families, along with our quality programs for education and parenting skills, we continue to create a comprehensive early childhood system of care and support for the Broomfield community where all children are valued, healthy and thriving!
