Testimonials

"CFPD is one of the premier pooled trusts in the country."- Brad Frigon, former President of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.

"For my clients, pooled trusts are a great option where a private trust may not be feasible, for a number of reasons. I find the pooled trust to be a cost and administratively effective solution for clients who have a need to protect public benefits, but who do not have the resources to go the private trust route." - Tim Bounds, Evans Case, LLP

"Superbly capable, professional administration, including familiarity with reporting requirements." -Spencer Crona, Brown & Crona, LLC

Mission

We serve people with disabilities and older adults by providing fiduciary services and navigation of public benefits and other resources.

Background Statement

CFPD was founded during a groundbreaking moment in history when Congress passed initiatives in 1993 that broadened the financial options available for people with disabilities. The Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act allowed Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries to participate in a pooled Special Needs Trust (SNT) without being disqualified from their benefits when they have more than $2,000 in assets. The nonprofit leaders who founded CFPD in 1994 reacted vigorously to this new legislation, knowing that there was an urgent opportunity to increase the quality of life for the low-income disability community in Colorado by providing much-needed financial and fiduciary services. CFPD is proud to operate the longest-standing pooled SNT in Colorado.

Given that many of CFPD's clients live with severe cognitive issues and have limited resources, it can be difficult for individuals with disabilities and their families to navigate the confusing landscape of financial management and government benefits regulations. Through its trust services and programs, CFPD addresses the need for personalized guidance and attention, providing clients with the peace of mind that their money is in good hands and the assurance that their future is being planned for.
