Testimonials

Some recipient comments:

"I will be the first person to graduate on my dad's side and the second to graduate on my mother's. I have to pay for my education the best I can without any family help. My goal is to make the world a better place." Jillian M, Centaurus High School, CSU-bound

"As a first generation Asian American kid I have been a pioneer, and I am now looking forward to being the first of my family to attend college. In this scholarship process, your generosity has motivated me to not only work harder but to inspire those who come after me as well." Heidi Y, Monarch High School, CU Denver-bound

Donor Dr. Thomas Melcher:
"There is a real need in our community for financial support to help high school students pursue their educations. I've known many of these students since they were in grade school and it's been fun to watch them blossom over the years. I believe strongly in the power of higher education and enjoy supporting our local students as they pursue a college degree."

Background Statement

In 1962 the Lafayette High School PTA collected funds from organizations and individuals to provide seniors with a start toward their college education. In 1965, Louisville businesses adopted these efforts and began to help Louisville High School seniors also. The Lafayette and Louisville programs merged in 1972 when Centaurus High School was built. In 2001, the fund expanded to include Monarch High School. The purpose of the Program is to provide scholarships to graduating Centaurus and Monarch High School students to help defray the cost of their higher education.
