Giving Activity

Mission

Our mission is to serve, partner, and engage the community to make the best use of food surplus to improve food equity and the health of people and the planet.

Background Statement

Our community-centric approach relies on strong partnerships and donors like you.

HOW WE DO IT:

At CAFE Food Rescue we work with event centers, caterers, restaurants, and grocery stores to collect, high-quality surplus food, that otherwise would end up in the landfill. From there, volunteers sort, package, and distribute meals through local food pantries, community dinners, and social service networks.

Every pound of rescued surplus food on someone’s plate is a step toward mitigating climate change. Due to a myriad of problems with our food system, this perfectly fresh, healthy, nutritious surplus food too often ends up in the landfill, causing harmful greenhouse gas emissions and exacerbating climate change.

CAFE Food Rescue provides a solution to this problem.

Providing 100K lbs of rescued surplus food to people in need prevents 179 metric tons of CO₂e emissions—the same as taking 43 cars off the road for a year.
