Callie's Backyard Foundation focuses on youth sex trafficking, addiction, homelessness, and suicide. Our programs are currently primarily in the Roaring Fork Valley, serving youth ages 13-21.

Our current primary programs are:

  • "Secrets" - The primary purpose of the program is to help keep youth out of crisis situations, and help them when in a crisis situation (homelessness, addiction overdose, mental health issues/suicide attempt). This program connects with youth through food (food connects!), activities and community outreach, building key trust relationships with local youth and informing them where they can turn for help. In addition to direct outreach, we receive referrals through schools, partner programs, parents, and law enforcement. Often our intervention keeps youth from being arrested or sent to facilities in Grand Junction. Callie's Backyard contracts with a caseworker to provide additional "wraparound" services through our many partners, including mental health, legal case management, medical care, job training, food security, and family conflict resolution/de-escalation.
  • "Host Homes" - In partnership with the Colorado Child Welfare Department, Callie's Backyard has identified 5 host homes that act as a temporary respite for youth in crisis, providing up to 10 days of safe housing and wraparound services. This program has the potential to serve as a statewide model as a valuable alternative to foster care.

Mission

We are passionate about addressing the problems of sex trafficking, drug and alcohol addiction, and homelessness among Colorado youth ages 13-21 years old. These are issues that ravage our Colorado communities.

Background Statement

Callie’s Backyard Foundation has implemented a number of important programs that are still in place today through our partner agencies, including:

- A Federal Task Force to combat sex trafficking. In 2010, founder Jackie Long galvanized Denver Metro organizations, Denver police department & FBI, lawmakers, and government leaders to create Colorado’s first sex trafficking task force, now known as the FBI Rocky Mountain Innocence Lost Task Force. This task force has rescued more than 600 young people from trafficking rings since 2013.

- Providing substantial funding for local non-profits such as Attention Homes, Save Our Youth, and Urban Peak.

- Our food delivery van, launched in September of 2016. We delivered free sandwiches and highly vetted resource information cards while doing direct street outreach to homeless youth. Although we no longer have the food van since we moved to Aspen, the Denver Police Department still uses our methods and branding for outreach to victims of sex trafficking.
