Background Statement
Ice Rink for Chaffee County’s mission is to promote ice skating and hockey, and improve access to ice rink facilities in Chaffee county and the surrounding communities. In support of this mission, IRCC is managing the design and construction of a multi-use facility at Marvin Park in Salida, CO. The multi-use pavilion will be able to support arts events such as music and film festivals, community events such as farmers markets, and in the winter months be used for recreation as a community ice rink.
This facility fits in to Marvin Park today in its current recreation-focused configuration, and jumpstarts the renovation of Marvin Park into a vibrant gateway park for Salida as described in the 2020 City of Salida parks master plan. The pavilion is expected to promote local economic growth by attracting more and larger events, adding new recreation opportunities, and creating local jobs.
As of August 2022 IRCC has raised and acquired over $1.5 million in assets to support the construction of this facility, and is actively working to complete the design and funding of the pavilion in partnership with the City of Salida and Chaffee County.
