Putting God's love in action by providing relief, Christian care and education to children and families in Uganda for the glory of God.
ChristAid was founded in 1995 by David Mporampora to provide assistance to children who would otherwise have had no opportunity for an education or a future outside of poverty and hunger. Starting with just a few students and one teacher meeting under a tree, ChristAid Academy, located in Kicuna, Uganda, now serves over 450 students in grades 1 through 7. Many of these students receive their school fees paid by sponsors here in the United States, with an additional 120 receiving fees from a partner organization in Belgium.
A campus of eight classrooms, offices, and a four-plex apartment structure for the teachers have been built. Many of the students have graduated from secondary schools and universities and have become leaders in their communities. In 2017, the seventh grade students of ChristAid Academy received the second highest national test scores in the entire district encompassing hundreds of schools.
Solar power, the only electric power in Kicuna, and sanitary restrooms, also the only ones to be found in Kicuna, were added to the school in 2016 providing the students with a safe environment which is conducive to learning.
Recognizing that many of the children were being cared for by their grandmothers because of the death or disappearance of the children's parents, a program called Grandmas for Jesus was developed to care for these desperately poor women. Now serving over 100 grandmas, the Grandmas for Jesus program, which is funded by sponsorships, provides a monthly stipend, staff care for the grandmas, and health care. More than 20 of the grandmas have received new, safe homes built by the "Shelters in the Storm" program started in 2013. Additional homes are being built providing work for over 30 young men and women in Kicuna who would otherwise not have any chance of employment.
A water project which brought fresh water to four watering stations in the village of Kicuna, a piggery project which provided pigs to the Grandmas, and other projects have aided in the health and well-being of the residents of Kicuna and the surrounding area.
In 2018, a preschool will be built and a secondary school is likely to follow soon. Finally, an office building is being developed and will be built in 2019 in order to make ChristAid Uganda more self-sustaining.
