The root of homelessness is ruptured relationships.
Christ in the City brings a unique approach to homeless ministry by addressing the most debilitating need for the homeless in the streets, the underlying need for human connection.
Missionaries walk the city over and over, simply listening, loving, and being present to those they meet. They approach with the love of Christ, seeing each individual as a person to be loved, not a problem to be fixed. Healing for our homeless friends–and our society at large–doesn’t happen without relationship. In time, trust is built. The power of friendship begins to slowly soften hearts and break down walls. It begins to open doors that may have been closed for a long time.
Remembering someone's name and continuing to show up for them becomes the catalyst for our homeless friends to take advantage of housing, sobriety programs, and job opportunities; to overcome the depression and loneliness that is often so paralyzing. As our friends recognize that they are worthy of being loved and capable of maintaining relationships, they often begin to reconnect with loved ones, and start a journey of healing that changes the course of their lives.
The cycle of poverty can be broken by the simple strength of human connection.
