The Historic Coaldale Schoolhouse has been a fixture in the Arkansas River Valley for over 100 years. Formerly a school, it now serves as the community hub for Coaldale, Howard, Cotopaxi, and the surrounding areas. The Schoolhouse plays host to a variety of community-building events; Farmer's Markets, support meetings, seed exchanges, exercise classes, music gatherings,  concerts, celebrations, and classes. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, the Coaldale Community Building Association (CCBA) relies on the donations of our friends and neighbors, near and far. And, every little bit helps! Did you know that if you are also a Sangre de Cristo Electric customer, you can have your donations to the Schoolhouse matched? This is such an easy way to double your impact. Simply upload your donation receipt (this can be a canceled check or your receipt from CO Gives) to the SDCEA matching link. You can ask for a match up to $200! https://www.myelectric.coop/community/matching-grant-program/

Background Statement

What we're about...

In 1923, the Coaldale Schoolhouse was built. When the rural schools were consolidated during the 1950's, the building was deeded to the community to provide a meeting place for people to come together. The Coaldale Schoolhouse has been serving that purpose ever since!
