Background Statement
The Colorado Dance Collective (CDC) was established in July of 2009 and later that year, qualified for non-profit status under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.
Now in our 15th year, the CDC has grown to include five separate auditioned companies: Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, and Swing, Stage & Social. Our dancers are adults, 18 and older, in all stages of life, who find common ground in their passion for dance as a performing art. Under the guidance of our volunteer Artistic Directors and Board of Directors, the CDC is home to several community outreach programs.
While we are active in the community in many ways, our two main outreach programs are Hip Hop Madness and The Wardrobe. Hip Hop Madness is a free all-day hip hop dance workshop produced by the CDC since 2014. The Wardrobe is a donation-supported collection of new and gently used dance attire and costumes available to dancers in northern Colorado.
In addition to Hip Hop Madness and the Wardrobe, the CDC also performs at various community events throughout the Northern Colorado area, bringing the joy of dance to our fellow Coloradans. Each year the CDC also presents two major dance productions. Our performances are well attended by a broad range of community members who appreciate the diverse dance and music styles presented in a dynamic multimedia format. Our productions feature each of our dance companies, along with guest pieces from other local dance groups.
Every December, The Hot Chocolate Collective provides an evening of holiday cheer. Our annual showcase each Spring offers thought provoking and fun-loving dances focused on a theme.
The Showcase theme for 2023 was “Anabranch – A Cautionary Fairytale,” an original production based off Wes Bruce’s amazing artwork and art installations in Greeley’s new LINC (Library Innovation Center). The original script follows the story of mystical beings known as the Willows whose world is suddenly thrown into chaos when an unknown force threatens to uproot their peaceful existence. The production was a collaboration of CDC’s dancers plus actors, musicians and custom background productions.
Since 2019, the CDC affectionately calls The Greeley Warehouse home. This space is also home to other local artists and musicians, as well as independent dance and fitness teachers with whom we share our studios. The CDC uses this studio space to host weekly adult dance classes open to the public for a nominal charge of $5 per class and run weekly rehearsals for our performance companies.
It is our vision to be a diverse and inclusive company of dancers known for our innovative, high quality productions and service oriented community interactions which promote dance as an integral part of our culture.
Together, our artistic directors, dancers, and Board of Directors work hard to achieve this vision each and every day. We are grateful to our donors and community for the support they offer to our non-profit dance repertoire company
