Colorado National Monument Association (CNMA) is the official nonprofit partner of Colorado National Monument, dedicated to preserving and enhancing this incredible landscape for future generations. Through a variety of initiatives, CNMA supports the Monument’s conservation efforts, educational programs, and resource stewardship.
Our funding is made possible through memberships, the operation of the Monument's bookstore, individual and business donations, government and private grants, and community events. As a vital link between the public and the Monument, we also engage with supporters through our website coloradonma.org, providing a platform for education, donations, and involvement.
Every contribution helps ensure the continued protection of the Monument’s unique ecosystem, historic features, and awe-inspiring beauty. With your support, we can sustain this natural treasure for all who visit—now and in the future.
"...I came here last year and found these canyons, and they feel like the heart of the world to me." - John Otto
The Colorado National Monument Association provides financial support to Colorado National Monument through a variety of community engagements and sales from our gift shop. This support fosters knowledge, passion, and dedication to enable stewardship and preservation of Colorado National Monument.
The Colorado National Monument Association (CNMA) was first established in July 1964 as part of the Colorado-Black Canyon of the Gunnison Nature Association, formed to support the conservation and educational efforts of national parks in the region. By October of 1964, recognizing the distinct significance of Colorado National Monument, CNMA became an independent entity with the sole mission of supporting Colorado National Monument.
This year, 2024, marks the 60th anniversary of CNMA’s unwavering dedication to preserving the unique landscapes, flora, and fauna of the Monument. Throughout its history, CNMA has worked closely with the National Park Service to fund critical projects ranging from trail maintenance and resource protection to educational programming that inspires stewardship in visitors of all ages.
John Otto’s pioneering spirit, which led to the designation of the Monument in 1911, continues to inspire CNMA’s work. Otto saw the monument as "the heart of the world," and CNMA has carried that vision forward by safeguarding the beauty and integrity of the area. Over the last six decades, CNMA has played an essential role in providing financial support through memberships, operating the monument’s visitor center bookstore, securing grants, and organizing community fundraising events.
As CNMA celebrates its 60th year, it remains as committed as ever to ensuring that the Monument remains a place of natural beauty and inspiration for generations to come. CNMA’s efforts help preserve more than 20,500 acres of stunning red rock canyons, towering monoliths, and diverse ecosystems, all while promoting public education and conservation.
