At Colorado Youth Outdoors, we teach archery, shooting sports, survival skills and fishing to teens and their adults. But that's not really WHY we're here. . . .
CYO exists to build the relationship between teens and their adult. Intentional time outdoors, learning new skills, and having fun together come together with our PACD model (Participate, Appreciate, Communicate & Dedicate) to create a framework for successful relationships.
CYO also offers field trips, summer camps, and partners with 40 other nonprofits in the Northern Colorado community to share our property and programming.
Mission
Colorado Youth Outdoors builds relationships through traditional outdoor recreation.
Using archery, shooting sports, wilderness survival skills, fly tying, spin & fly fishing, we build the relationship between teenagers and their adult.
Background Statement
Colorado Youth Outdoors was established in 2001 due to the recognition that youth and their parents often struggle in connecting with each other.
From experience and current research, outdoor recreational activities provide an ideal environment for youth and significant people in their life to strengthen their relationship.
Initially, CYO's programming was exclusively held at local high schools. In 2010, CYO transitioned from a high school-based program to a facility-based program with the acquisition of Swift Ponds, a 220-acre regional outdoor education and recreation facility in Northern Colorado. With an emphasis in Northern Colorado (Larimer and Weld counties), CYO has grown to support over 20,000 youth and families each year.
