Community Fit, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, launched to provide community members with the resources and tools necessary to recover, rehabilitate, and restore a healthy and active lifestyle. After engaging with local medical professionals to learn about areas of specialty that would benefit their patients, Community Fit identified a gap in care: the space between a doctor's recommendations and a client's ability to establish a safe and effective fitness or recovery plan on their own. The organization is based in Steamboat Springs and serves clients in northwest Colorado.
“Navigating health issues and seeking the necessary tools to recover and rehabilitate can be scary, confusing, and time consuming,” noted Rebecca Williams, Founder and Executive Director of Community Fit. “Through my work as a personal trainer and fitness professional over the past 10 years, I quickly realized the importance of individualized fitness programs. I’ve seen firsthand how challenging it is for clients to navigate the road to recovery – whether from cancer, knee surgery, or chronic pain due to arthritis. Clients need individualized support, encouragement, and customized fitness plans to increase strength, improve their ability to recover, and enrich the quality of their life.”
“Community Fit currently partners with over 15 local professionals, including Physical Therapists, personal trainers, and nutritionists, to provide services to a wide variety of clients with a broad range of medical needs,” noted Williams. “We are equipped to work with individuals with intellectual and/or physical disabilities to those going through drug and alcohol recovery. We partner with local health clinics and fitness studios to meet the needs of our clients, and our staff are trained with specialized certifications.”
Williams reflected that after losing her father to cancer when she was two years old, she always wanted to use her fitness skills to provide services to cancer clients. “I found an amazing certification program that allowed me to become a Cancer Exercise Specialist. Providing personalized fitness programs and a safe environment for cancer clients to recover and restore their health has been so rewarding. Earning this certification was a turning point for me. I quickly realized how many people in our community need specialized services, in addition to cancer clients.”
“Our vision is to build a community where every person has equal access to the resources needed to establish a healthy, active lifestyle and recover from illness or injury,” said Williams. “Community Fit is more than an organization; we are a movement driven by compassion and care for our community.”
