Compound of Compassion

A nonprofit organization

Compound of Compassion offers advocacy programs for youth, young adults, families, veterans, seniors, and young mothers providing resources and services that are lacking within the community. We address the community's needs and create tailored empowerment programs and services.

Testimonials

Compound of Compassion has done so much to support our community. In July 2020, we fed over 500 people with Feed the Teens Event. In the fall of 2020, we are delivered 200 meals every single day Monday through Friday to people who are homeless and/or at risk. We also provided snow removal for the elderly community and individuals who are ill from COVID-19 or other illnesses. We hosted Safe Zone events over the summer 2020, where we created safe places for kids to go on the weekends to socially distance and be outside without fear of experiencing violence. We have data that proves that our safe zones helped decrease the violence against youths in our communities.

Compound of Compassion is trying to break generational curses. One household has multiple generations and each one has different needs. We can very proudly say that the Compound has something for every generation that will allow them to gain knowledge on how to live a sustainable life. When one generation gets services and support, it takes a load off the next generation. Each generation teaches the others. The younger generations have to respect and help the older generations so the older generations can respect the energy the young generations have and provide wisdom to them.

Mission

The Mission of the Compound of Compassion is to provide a self-sustainable environment created to encourage a safe place of healing for youth, young adults, veterans, and seniors. Our goal is to meet them where they are and facilitate their metamorphosis and transformation through diversion, inclusion, and redirection.

We provide access to housing, health care, education, life and job skills, financial literacy, and childcare assistance. Also, we provide disaster relief, humanitarian aid, and other tangible assistance to those in need.

Background Statement

Compound of Compassion (The Compound) is a 501(c)(3) organization established by Founder Shana Shaw in March 2018, in Aurora, Co. Compound of Compassion started as a way to develop affordable housing and help people experiencing homelessness, especially individuals ages 18-24 because they are so often forgotten about. The founders of Compound of Compassion hope to build pockets of safe havens for different demographics of people, hoping to reach everyone in a community. The main goal is to be able to achieve an example of a healthy community that thrives within itself and is people-based and people-driven. Compound of Compassion operates on a mentorship model, where people help other people because they've been through challenges of their own and want to help others.

As the nonprofit developed and people became aware of what "the compound" is, it developed into a compound of safety for everyone. Compound of Compassion has wellness programs for single mothers and veteran and disability services to help individuals navigate through paperwork and access their benefits. The Compound also has a youth and young adult entity called Generation Drive-Thru, which has soared in COVID-19. The Compound also connects individuals to a halfway home and affordable housing where people can come and transform in a holistic way in order to transform their lives and change their life's trajectory moving forward. The Compound works to meet the needs of disadvantaged groups within our community by providing disaster relief, humanitarian aid, and other tangible assistance to combat trauma and promote community wellness within the city of Aurora, Denver and surrounding metro cities. We collaborate with existing organizations within the community to create solutions and offer services to encourage the mind, body, and soul to overcome adversity and live life to the fullest.
