Background Statement
The 501C3 Contemplative Outreach of Colorado is comprised of 2 unique programs/parts; the Center for Contemplative Living in Denver and Contemplative Outreach Retreats in Snowmass. This site is only covering the staff, financials, and programs of the Center for Contemplative Living in Denver. Each portion has their own financials, budget, program planning etc., and all the financials are consolidated for the annual 990. There is one primary Board of Directors that covers all portions of the 501C3, and the Circle of Service is focused on the Denver operations.
The Center for Contemplative Living was established to promote the aim of Thomas Keating in teaching Centering Prayer. This prayer itself goes back to the early Christian tradition of contemplative prayer.
Centering Prayer is simply resting in the Divine Presence which we believe is already within us. Centering Prayer is a way to raise our awareness of this presence and help us move beyond conversation with God to communion with God.
The Center For Contemplative Living was begun 40 years ago in very small quarters graciously offered to us by Spirit of Christ Church in Arvada, CO. Over the years the community has moved several times as it has grown and evolved to the vibrant community we know today. Currently Contemplative Outreach leases a church building from the Episcopal Diocese and this sacred place serves as our Center.
The Center For Contemplative Living contains a chapel where we pray in community, administrative offices, and several classrooms. In the area upstairs we have a large kitchen, a dining room and a multipurpose meeting room.
A sense of community is an integral component of our Center. All are graciously welcome to our hospitality. We delight in praying Centering Prayer with everyone. We offer a variety of spirituality based classes, days of prayer and special programs. Our programs are offered on Zoom, in-person and in a hybrid format. Twice a year we sponsor weekend retreats at Sacred Heart Retreat House.
As a community we are closely associated with the Cistercian Monks at St. Benedict's Monastery in Snowmass, CO.
