Background Statement
In recent years, DDI has undergone a significant transformation to broaden its impact and reach. As of 2016, the Denver Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. decided to relinquish its membership in DDI. Consequently, DDI was re-established as an independent entity governed by a dynamic Board of Directors from diverse backgrounds.
Current Focus and Mission:
DDI has evolved its mission to extend beyond being solely a fundraising arm for a single organization. Today, it actively collaborates with various community organizations to provide comprehensive support. The organization is deeply committed to academic advancement and, to this end, funds scholarships and other mentor programs. Additionally, DDI is a key partner with health organizations, contributing to mental health education initiatives and promoting healthy lifestyles.
Expanding Impact:
DDI's influence extends beyond traditional charitable activities. The organization has strategically expanded its collaborations to include initiatives promoting economic growth. These efforts are specifically targeted towards BIPOC owned and operated businesses in Colorado. A primary focus is placed on uplifting black and underserved small business owners in Colorado.
Historical Context:
Founded in 1995, DDI initially served as the non-profit arm of the Denver Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Its primary purpose was to raise funds for charitable activities, including scholarships, youth programs, and health education. During this phase, DDI's membership comprised all members of the Denver Alumnae Chapter and operated under the governance of a Board of Directors.
The journey from its inception as a chapter-affiliated entity to its current independent structure reflects DDI's commitment to adapt and amplify its impact in response to the evolving needs of the community it serves.
