Background Statement
The Denver Police Protective Association Relief Fund was developed in 2003 by the Denver Police Protective Association exclusively to support law enforcement and public safety servants in their time of need. It began with the vision of helping numerous officers facing great financial losses through the failure of the Denver Fire and Police Health Fund, leaving many without the means to repay large medical debts. The focus of the fund has grown since then along with the demands. It has helped personnel by getting immediate daily supplies after losing their homes and belongings to fire while waiting on insurance payments to assisting a widow who struggles with her loss. Today, the fund has helped several first responders across the nation who have found themselves in complicated situations.
While we always hope there are no critical incidents resulting in injury to those who serve our community by providing public safety, the reality of public safety service demands recognition of the many dangers inherent to members of these professions. In addition, those in this field are not exempt from illness, disease or other situations, which create hardships on them and their families.
