Dogster’s Spay & Neuter Program (DSNiP) is a nonprofit organization based in the Four Corners region, dedicated to reducing pet overpopulation and preventing unnecessary euthanasia through affordable, accessible spay/neuter services. Founded in 1999, DSNiP has performed over 22,000 surgeries, primarily serving rural and tribal communities where veterinary care is often limited.

In response to the growing need, we have expanded our services through the Four Corners Animal Alliance (FCAA), which will allow us to provide low-cost preventative, medical, and surgical care to pets from low-income families and rescue organizations. Our mission remains focused on curbing pet overpopulation, reducing shelter intake, and lowering euthanasia rates in the region.

To continue this critical work, we are seeking  funding to further expand our clinic's capabilities and outreach efforts. This funding will enable us to provide additional surgeries, acquire necessary medical equipment, and increase our community education initiatives on the importance of spaying and neutering. With your help we can continue making a significant impact on the well-being of pets and their families, ensuring that no pet goes without the care they need due to financial barriers.

Mission

D-SNiP is a 501c3 organization that seeks to end the tragedy of unwanted cats and dogs by providing spay/neuter education and low-cost spay and neuter services.

Background Statement

Dogster’s Spay & Neuter Program (DSNiP) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1999 by Karen Zempel to rescue and rehome pets in need. Over time, the organization identified a critical need for spay/neuter services to address the root cause of pet homelessness and overpopulation. In 2010, DSNiP launched its spay/neuter initiative with the help of grants, donations, and a mobile unit retrofitted to reach rural and underserved communities in the Four Corners region.

Our purpose is to provide affordable spay/neuter surgeries and essential veterinary care to reduce pet overpopulation and prevent unnecessary euthanasia. To date, DSNiP has performed over 22,000 spay/neuter surgeries. In 2020, we expanded from a mobile service to a permanent high-volume clinic, allowing us to serve over 2,200 pets annually. We’ve recently launched the Four Corners Animal Alliance (FCAA) to extend our services, offering low-cost medical care to families in financial need and rescue organizations, with a continued focus on ending pet overpopulation in the region.

Our work has led to collaboration and outlets that allow the DSNiP team to help in many other areas:

Farmington Regional Animal Shelter- a weekend/month traveling to help fulfill their community’s  spay/neuter program

McKinley County Humane Society of Gallup, NM to provide spay/neuter assistance to their overwhelming need.

Loretto, Mexico, Baja California- the opportunity to be hosted at their animal shelter-Animalandia facility while we offer sterilization to over 150 pets in 3 days.
