Doreen Katz Memorial Cancer Foundation

A nonprofit organization

There are 20,000 new cancer diagnoses in Colorado each year. Children of cancer patients are missing out on a complete education because their parent's can't afford to pay what the schools are currently charging.
We are there to cover those fees, K-12, and we also offer therapy so for the children

Testimonials

Hello! I was the first person helped by the Doreen Katz Memorial Cancer Foundation. While beginning my second fight with brain cancer, and just being the caregiver to my husband as he finished up his treatment for Hodgkins Lymphoma I was feeling pretty discouraged and in need of some serious help! Thankfully my husband and I were blessed with miracle twin babies, along with our seven year old daughter but this left us in a hard spot while trying to care for our own cancers and maintain the lifestyle our children were accustomed to. We were even more devastated when we learned of the need for our daughter to have open heart surgery, along with a CP diagnosis. As you can imagine, money was going quickly to all this medical stuff and paying school fees was quickly approaching. The Doreen Katz Memorial Foundation found us at the perfect time! Not only did the CEO, and founder Adam Katz, come to Children's Hospital and sit with us during our daughters surgery he assured us we had nothing to worry about as far as her school fees. Adam has helped us with school fees for three years now and I can't even put into words how incredibly helpful that has been for our family! As with most marriages the severe lack of funds coming in and the massive amounts of funds needing to go out for medical expenses, brought in some marital stress. When Adam Katz brought over a counselor to our home to be with us to educate us, to help us and to continually support us our lives REALLY changed for the better. Not only is this counselor helping us, she is helping us for free because of Adam Katz and the Doreen Katz Memorial Cancer Foundation. This woman is incredible! She is educating us on nutrition, lifestyle changes and our marriage in ways that we have never known before. I can't even tell you the number of times Adam Katz has come to our home to see how we're doing, and see if we are in need. This man, not knowing us at all (when he reached out to me initially) , has ensured, for our children and for us, that our family stays not only together but that we are getting stronger by the day as we beat cancer for my third go at it. He has ensured that our children lives are being consistent and that they feel as little of an impact as they possibly can from this nightmare cancer has brought into our family four times now between my husband and myself. When I lost my job, due to not being released back to work after a major brain surgery, Adam Katz was one of the first people to contact us and see if our kids needed anything! He even offered to buy our Children's Christmas that year. This man and this foundation are doing something no other foundation is doing! He really cares for the children and their parents! This foundation cares for families! I feel we have made a life long friend in Adam, even though we have so much going on and we are awful "friends" at this point. I truly hope this foundation grows and saves more families they way it has truly saved mine! This foundation will forever be carried on by the children it has supported during some of the toughest times in their lives, even if they're to young to know it at the time! I can't thank you enough Adam Katz and the Doreen Katz Memorial Cancer Foundation! THANK YOU!

Mission

The Doreen Katz Memorial Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to helping children whose parents are battling cancer.

Working with the many hospitals located in the Metro Denver Area, the Foundation helps the children when their parents are diagnosed with any form of cancer. This help is in the form of grants for education and general support.

Background Statement

The Doreen Katz Memorial Cancer Foundation (DKMCF) was established to serve children whose parents are either battling cancer or have lost that battle to insure that they have a chance at a full education and therapy so that they can continue to grow up to become productive members of society. Founder, Adam Katz, has spent 19 years in Metro Denver since separating from the United States Navy. During his time in the Navy, Doreen passed away after a 6 month battle with Breast Cancer. When Adam moved to Denver, he quickly became involved with many volunteer activities in the community. Starting with Griffith Centers for Children, the Denver Children's Museum, Avon Walk for Breast Cancer and Brent's Place. He noticed there was plenty of help for children fighting cancer or adults fighting cancer, but there wasn't anything being done for children when their parents have been diagnosed with cancer. Adam believed that his background of volunteer work has created a solid network of support in Denver to justify leaving work as an Accountant in the oil and gas industry in order to aid in this vital area of child development. Now in our 6th year of operations, the Foundation is currently working with fifteen families and fifty children and expects to continue to grow into the future. In addition, the foundation is now strengthening its therapeutic offerings with a new Equine Assisted Therapy program, music therapy and will be introducing an animal assisted therapy program in house during 2017.
