Mission

Companioning is our vital work.

We have the simple but radical belief that companionship itself can be profoundly transformative. So alongside helping to meet emotional, spiritual, and physical needs, our true work is practicing the way of Jesus through building ongoing relationships that remind the invisible among us of their immeasurable worth.

Background Statement

Dry Bones Denver (DBD) informally began in late 2001 as the large population of homeless youth and young adults was first noticed by Dry Bones' founders. Initially begun as a simple framework where people of unlikely matched walks of life (rich, poor, wise, inexperienced, housed, houseless, and so on) would meet and begin genuine caring relationships, Dry Bones offered opportunities for kids to "belong." Realizing the increasing need, DBD quickly formed into a 501(c)3 organization and expanded its offerings. Today, Dry Bones continues to provide genuine relationships that run deep. DBD also offers life-skills classes, meals throughout each week, counseling services, Resource Navigation assistance, spiritual community, individual goal planning, clergy support (weddings, funerals, etc), and countless opportunities for our friends living on the streets to discover their value, express a voice, and believe in lasting hope.

In 2013, Dry Bones birthed, in partnership with Belay Enterprises, Purple Door Coffee - a 12 month job training program and coffee company.

In 2018, Dry Bones, in partnership with Providence Network, birthed the Silver Lining House - a transitional housing program for young adults 18 to 30, years old.

In 2020, Purple Door Coffee officially transitioned from being an independent social enterprise to moving under the umbrella of the Dry Bones Denver organization.

DBD is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of 13 women and men. The complete Board meets tri-annually; break-out focus teams meet throughout the year; the Executive Team meets monthly.
