EFAA is building a community where all of our Boulder County neighbors can meet their basic needs and springboard themselves and their children out of poverty. For over 100 years, EFAA has served as the community’s safety net, working in collaboration with volunteers, donors, partners, and participants. EFAA ensures our community members have access to food, housing, and other resources to move toward financial stability and resilience. When families thrive, our community is stronger.

"You never know who you’re helping. It could be someone who looks like you; just a regular person – someone you pass in the street. Before I experienced the fear of not having enough money to pay for rent and food, I had no idea that ‘someone in need’ could be me. But I needed help desperately and EFAA was there for me. Now my son and I are doing great."
"If it weren’t for your help, I would have lost my home. I don’t have relatives with spare bedrooms. I don’t have a backup plan. I would have been homeless."
"I have been able to raise a healthier, smarter daughter due to EFAA's help with food and electricity. It has helped me to create a stable home."
"When the pandemic hit, and I needed rental assistance for a couple months-they stepped in. When I had no insurance and needed to get glasses-they stepped in. When I just wasn't sure how I was going to get healthy food while I was in transition-they stepped in."
Notes to Resource Navigators:
"Thank you so much for your help with rental assistance. You can't imagine the feeling of relief that washed over me when I received your call. And thanks for being so kind, friendly and compassionate. May the world smile upon you ten-fold."
"You have been the best advocate, counselor, and motivator. I'm so thankful for all of our talks and your belief that I can do it. I also appreciate you being nonjudgmental and a rational mind when mine was going a million miles a minute. You have been amazing!"
"I want to personally thank you for your time and compassion. This has been a nightmare and your assistance helped me to come out of my depression that momentarily consumed me. I know I will look back and laugh at what a mess my life was during this time, but I will also look back at those who were in service when I needed help. To you I am grateful, and will never forget the impact you made at a time when I was in despair."
EFAA provides stabilizing services, innovative programs, and transformative advocacy to strengthen families and create a thriving community.
The Emergency Family Assistance Association (EFAA) has served residents of Boulder County for over a century. EFAA began in 1918 when concerned citizens organized to provide relief to their neighbors facing the raging Spanish flu and the collapse of the local mining industry. EFAA was incorporated in 1953, received IRS tax-exempt status in 1962, and adopted our current name in 1977. In 1979 we expanded to include housing for families experiencing homelessness. In 2017, EFAA officially became a Family Resource Center. During the first year of the pandemic, EFAA was the leading provider of rental assistance in the County, both public and private. Throughout its existence, EFAA has provided a local safety net to households in need and has increasingly developed deeper programming to prevent homelessness, reduce poverty, and create a more equitable community.
