Testimonials

I am deeply grateful for the dedication and support provided by the Education Foundation of the Summit, an all volunteer group of community members. Their unwavering commitment to our schools has had a transformative impact on our students, teachers, and community. Thanks to their generous efforts, we have been able to introduce innovative programs, enhance classroom resources, and create opportunities that inspire lifelong learning.

-Dr. Tony Byrd, Superintendent, Summit School District

The Eileen Finkel Innovative Teacher Grants are all about celebrating and supporting our teachers’ creativity. These grants give them the opportunity to try out new ideas to make their students’ learning even more enriching and engaging.

-Consuelo Redhorse, President, Summit School District Board of Education

I am so grateful for the foundation's support for the Summit High School (SHS) Outdoor Education Program. The foundation's  Innovative Teacher Grants helped us build a classroom set of equipment for students for our overnight backpacking trips. These experiences help local students learn about snow science, avalanche mitigation, and risk management in backcountry settings. Our goal is to ensure that more of our students have access to safe field experiences in our local mountain environments.

-Joe Kassay, SHS Outdoor Education Teacher

Giving Activity

Mission

The Education Foundation of the Summit is a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization with an all-volunteer group of parents and community members dedicated to supporting the public school students and teachers in Summit County. Founded in 2010, the foundation has expanded its support of public school teachers and students in Summit to include Eileen Finkel Innovative Teaching Awards each year, partnership and grants to school PTAs, scholarships to high school seniors, and collaboration with schools and community groups to increase opportunities for students, Pre K-12, in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics). The foundation has raised over $1,000,000 since 2010.

Background Statement

Education Foundation of the Summit was founded by a group of parents who were concerned that state funding was insufficient to ensure that our children receive the education they deserve. They joined together to found an organization that would supplement state funding with private donations that are directed at creative and innovative projects. Our Board of Directors is an all-volunteer group of parents and local community members.
