Empire Lyric Players have been singing, dancing, and forging lifelong friendships in the Mile High City since 1958.
As one of the oldest surviving “G & S” societies in the country, we represent an irreplaceable creative hub to hundreds of talented amateurs, professional musicians, and hardcore fans.
Together, we create "shockingly good" comic opera. For laughs.
"These part-time thespians, who otherwise earn their livings in such diverse occupations as teaching, printing, medicine and the law, have one advantage over other theater groups - they perform only the works of Gilbert and Sullivan. As a result of such single-minded dedication, the Empire Lyric Players has had plenty of time to polish its act and find the requisite combination of wit and precision that Gilbert and Sullivan demands."
- Robert Denerstein, "Gilbert and Sullivan are tops with Lyric Players," Rocky Mountain News (June 6, 1980)
"Empire Lyric Players did a most amusing job of making it all come alive in the old sanctuary of the historic Montview Presbyterian Church in Denver [...] Enunciation of Gilbert's text was always clear (a real necessity in this repertory), singing was good, fine work for a group of "volunteers" who get together to have fun and who allow those of us in the audience to share in the fun."
- Charles Jernigan, "Ruddigore, Rare Gilbert & Sullivan Comes to Denver," Opera Pronto: Jernigan's Opera Journal (2016)
"I was nervous auditioning, but [...] I found a community. I found a home. I found a family. This theater family has grown and now includes my own family. I have seen others finding their home within this group and experience the joy Empire Lyric Players give this community."
