Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. All are welcome to help with the work. This grassroots effort is made possible by generous donors contributing financial resources, materials, supplies, and skilled labor.
Testimonials
Partner families build and buy their home, paying a 0% interest fixed-rate mortgage payment. Habitat homeowners also contribute toward closing costs and hundreds of hours of "sweat equity". The lasting, generational impact is well-documented and includes educational and job attainment, health and wellness, and a sense of security and confidence in managing finances.
Fort Collins Habitat for Humanity values the input of our homeowners and in an effort to gather their input and study the long-term impact of the program, we adapted a written survey done by another Colorado affiliate and administered it and compiled results which showed:
87% of homeowners surveyed feel more financially stable now than when they were renting.
55% of homeowners surveyed feel increased confidence in seeking a job promotion to further their career goals.
75% of homeowners surveyed expect their children to go to college.
63% of homeowners surveyed say their children's grades have improved with the stability of homeownership.
Some of the comments shared through the survey include:
"The biggest change is I feel relief knowing we don't have to move. This is our home and we can build our future."
"The biggest change was being financially able to go back to school to change careers. I became a teacher which gave me better income and job security."
"The most special part about the Habitat process was working with volunteers. What a priceless experience. Still makes me cry. XOXO."
"The saying, 'life can change in an instant' typically refers to a negative. The feeling of a positive instant change upon selection = priceless!"
"The most special part about the Habitat process is that I built my home in some portion. I cried happy tears during my first shower when I remembered framing the walls I now stood in, 6 months prior to this."
