Testimonials

Name changed to protect confidentiality - Tate started working with Becca, one of our Peer Specialists, as part of our program with the 10th Judicial Court system. Tate has struggled their whole life with substance use and their mental health. They experienced many recovery setbacks in their life and could not seem to stay out of jail. With Becca’s support and the support of their team, Tate has made progress to break their old patterns.  In fact, they celebrated 1 year of sobriety in July and are starting training to become a Peer Specialist. Tate invited Becca to their celebration of their “sober birthday” and thanked her for all of her support. They said, "Life just gets easier with you as a peer! I really appreciate you and you make a huge impact on people."

Mission

Friendly Harbor Community Center promotes wellness and recovery from mental health and substance issues by providing a safe environment and connecting people to healthy relationships and organizations through Peer Support.

Background Statement

Friendly Harbor opened its doors in 1996 after two years of intensive planning by our founders. Robin Hill struggled with often debilitating bipolar disorder. He knew the need for a place for persons with mental illness to go, feel safe, and connect with others who were experiencing similar life experiences. Friendly Harbor was established so that adults with mental illness would have a place to congregate, reach out for support, and find the resources to get the help they needed. We are a peer to peer organization populated by adult consumers who are managing a wide range of diagnosed mental health issues. The majority of our participants are disabled to some degree and rely on the generosity of the community to maintain the Harbor and keep our doors open.
