Glowmundo’s mission driven works provides school communities with support for the creation of a positive school climate. A positive school climate is foundational to the academic promise of the school and refers to the work of a school community to create a quality experience for all students, staff, and families. Our work with schools is founded on the idea of schools being communities of belonging where everyone no matter their role feels safe emotionally, socially, physically, academically, and from an identity standpoint. We foresee schools where everybody no matter their background is affirmed in their identity and their strengths, where students experience academic learning and social-emotional development; where staff feels empowered, heard and seen and experiences a sense of renewed commitment towards their job no matter the challenges; and where families feel they have a partner to raise their child honoring their cultures, their identities and meeting them where they are at.
Glowmundo exists to cultivate resilience in children and youth, born from something that lives within all of us: inner strength.
We build resilience capacity, in partnership with parents and educators, so when children are faced with adversity or opportunity, they are empowered to connect with their inner strength and optimism, remaining self-aware and confident in new or challenging circumstances.
Glowmundo, a BIPOC-led 501(c)3 organization, was founded in 2010 by a mother deeply concerned about how stress affects children's lives at school and socially. She understood that stress can cause harmful behaviors, especially when children face difficult situations like hunger, homelessness, violence, neglect, or poverty.
Our mission is unwavering: "Glowmundo exists to help children and youth build resilience from the inner strength that lives within all of us."
We create tools for teaching social-emotional learning (SEL) in K-12 schools, focusing on BIPOC, low-income, immigrant, and refugee students and their families. Our SEL programs, such as Glow for K-5 students and Lead Ur Way for teen moms, are designed to be age-appropriate and supportive. Our work encompasses wrap-around services focused on school climate support by tending to social-emotional learning, trauma, equity, and belonging in a school setting. We provide training and coaching to administrators and teachers on themes such as equity-based leadership, social-emotional learning, culturally responsive teaching, professional resilience, and trauma-informed teaching strategies. For students, we offer the SEL Glow Curriculum and our Transformational Social Emotional Learning Guide (TSEL) for upper grades. And last but not least we bring the parents into the equation through our Dialogues program, which is offered bilingually every month to parents at school to increase their own resilience and to promote the protective factors of family strengthening
