The question is not whether a wildfire will or will not occur in Grand County, but when and where will it occur. GCWC helps prepare citizens for wildfire through education/action. Statistics suggest that for every $1 spent in mitigation now, there is a $4 return on avoided losses in the future. Please visit our website at bewildfireready.org to learn more!

Background Statement

In 2013, Grand Fire Protection District No. 1 was awarded funds through the BLM Community Assistance Program to form the Grand County Wildfire Council, as directed by their 2009 CWPP. The awarded funds were used for education and outreach, printed materials, and website development. In 2015, the Council filed Articles of Incorporation with the State of Colorado and subsequently received its 501(c)(3) status approval from the IRS. Since 2015, the Council has continued to apply for and receive grants to assist with education and mitigation projects, including a Fuels Reduction Cost-Share Program and Free Community Chipping Days.
